We used to love visiting the Orangery but changes over the past year have
not been positive. The once superb service has gone and alas prices have
risen to much to make it desirable. The food quality is still good but no
longer at the right price. Bring back the previous comfortable dining
experience and friendly attentive staff and this place could be great once
more.

We had a terrible meal here on Friday 26 July. £11.50 for a couple of
smoked mackerel fillets on a bed of salad. It was extremely disappointing.
Certainly won't be eating here again!

Danielle: if you are going to complain about a place at least complain in
person and don't recycle complaints from a year previous; april 2007 and
may 2008, yet you wrote the same thing! the staff and the building have
changed dramatically since then.

Apart from the nice decor, everything else was a let down. Decided to go
for lunch here and ended up waiting ten minutes for drinks, finally ordered
our food (pizza and salad) only to be waiting 45 minutes and still no food.
I asked one of the staff, who didn't want to know and walked off. So we
left the money on the table for the drinks and left and it felt good to do
that!
Older Comments about the Orangery
"Great place to go for a coffee, glass of wine or beer etc. as it has a lovely cool airy feel and you can just sit and chat. On the downside the menu is bizarre and really doesn't add up - the tapas menu is unappetizing and boring, the main food board is too 'restaurant style' and the tables aren't geared up for it size wise. Pizzas are nice but not in keeping with the theme of the place from when it opened. I love going here on a week night and Saturday afternoon as it really is a lovely place to share a glass of wine with friends but I always make sure I've eaten first." - Sian [Jan 2008]
"Had a few bad experiences with long waits or orders not turning up at all recently. Nice, but only if you don't have to be anywhere else for the next couple of days." - Ant [Dec 2007]
"My favourite place in Aberystwyth. I go there most days, and hold meetings in there with my political group. The food and drink is great and the staff are very professional, know most of them by name now!" - Anthony [Nov 2007]
"By far the best bar in Aberystwyth. One of the few that you don't feel the bar staff are going to look at you like some sort of weirdo when you ask for the wine list." - John [Oct 2007]

"Excellent food, beer, wines and service." - Mike FW [Dec 2006]
"Bit posh and up its own backside but nice if you like that sort of thing." - Pub Goer [Nov 2006]
"We went there last week for some live music that we saw advertised. We were pleasantly surprised at how busy it was considering the firework display at the football ground. A great evening out." - Matthew Pearce [Nov 2006]
"It's a great place go. Everyone that I've spoken to seems to really like it and often go back there. The new brunch menu on Sundays is really excellent. Also, during the week in the morning before 12:00 you can have a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel - it's the best." - Ben Hunters [Nov 2006]
"Comfy and cozy! Brill place to unwind after work, or for a lovely night of good conversation with cherished friends. Wonderful wine and beer choice, food excellently cooked and presented. Staff are fab!" - Keith and Sandra [Oct 2006]
"Best place to relax, eat, drink and work in Aber." - Simon [Oct 2006]
"Very tastefully decorated. Good food. A really nice atmosphere to relax in. Lots of establishments in London where I live could learn from the Orangery." - M Jones [Sep 2006]
"Have been several times, can't fault it." - Sally, Hereford [Sep 2006]
"Have visited on quite a number of occasions now and it beats the other watering holes in town, most of them open-plan, characterless, noisy, smoke-filled disasters. Service is friendly, atmosphere relaxed and comfortable, choice of wines and beers excellent, even including my fave organic beverage, Honeydew. Perfect for unwinding at the end of a hard day at work, or meeting up with friends with whom you can converse without having to shout or lipread! Food is also excellent: cooked well and well-presented. A real pleasure to spend time here." - Keith Cross [Sep 2006]
"Very expensive, and overrated." - Tim [Sep 2006]
"Went to the Orangery last week for a social gathering and every one really enjoyed the surroundings, good food and excellent service. It was a leaving do for a good friend I am sure memories will last a long time." - Mrs. Jones [Aug 2006]
"It's expensive for Aberystwyth, but then, with that comes an atmosphere and choice that is pretty good. It's quite gay-friendly too, which is also a bonus for those of us that are." - Bwyd a Cwrw [Jul 2006]
"Guess this was the first really up market place in Aber. Which isn't saying much. But they have done a great renovation job, free wireless internet is a nice touch. The daytime menus need to change more regularly, I've run out of new things to have, and the daily specials don't change that much either! Evening menu good, we went there on Valentine's Day a while back and we honestly couldn't fault the food, which is almost a first for any venue in Aber. Having said that, it still wasn't mind-blowing quality for the money. All in all, though Orangery is a nice place to hang out and surprisingly even as a heavy smoker I enjoyed the non-smoking ambience. If they can focus more on changing menus that reflect market fresh produce they could merit a 5/5 at some stage - just not yet." - Dean & Pai [Jun 2006]
"Pretentious." - Kate Sedgely [Jun 2006]
"This is the place in Aber to kick back and enjoy fine wine and dining. I think the place is so exceptional that my wife and I had are wedding reception there. The Orangery staff were fantastic, the food exquisite and we wouldn't of chosen anywhere else in the world! Definitely worth a visit." - Andrew Washbourne [Apr 2006]
"Great food, great value and great service. But the best thing is the modern, airy and relaxing atmosphere. Aber needs more places like this." - Anon [Jan 2006]
"A really nice atmosphere as soon as you walk through the door; presentable staff and tasty snacks. Good value on everything especially puddings." - Mark B [Oct 2005]
"Feel like a celebrity for the night. Great service, great food and, even better, pink champagne!" - Caz [Oct 2005]
"This was an excellent way to wind-down after a weekend in Aber. The service was great, it was very comfortable and although we had our son with us they made him feel very welcome. We are looking forward to our next trip to Aber and a visit to the Orangery." - Steph [Oct 2005]
"A spacious, bright and clean place to spend an afternoon or evening in a smoke free environment either in company or alone. With good food and service to boot." - Peter Bollada [Aug 2005]
"Aberystwyth has been waiting perhaps for some years for an establishment like the Orangery to offer such a comfortable, aesthetic place to come into existence. It is ideal for those who prefer the wine-bar or coffee house styled hub for social gatherings to the smokey pub scene. The menu is excellent, the establishment is clean, well-organised and the entire experience appeals to the senses. I wish the Orangery many years of success serving the Aber community as it has been a long awaited venue and a wonderful addition to the community." - C [Aug 2005]
"As of August 2005 there is nowhere else like it in Aber. The quality of food and service is very good and the atmosphere too, being light and airy and smoke-free. Light bites and fine wines are consistently the Orangery's forte - I've sampled them on at least half a dozen occasions." - Tim Williams [Aug 2005]
